A few days ago, Denny Hamlin gave fans a glimpse into his personal life with a touching Instagram reveal. In the video, the Hamlin family stands together, beaming, as a tiny pair of blue Nike shoes sits beside them. The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” plays softly in the background, setting the mood for the big news: Denny and his partner are expecting a baby boy, their third child, any day now.

For Hamlin, the anticipation of fatherhood is mixing with the chaos of a jam-packed race week, and he’s savoring every moment. But instead of slowing down, the veteran driver is packing his schedule tighter than ever. With a championship basketball game, a golf tournament, and the Coca-Cola 600 all on his plate, Hamlin is determined to make every minute count before his world changes once again.

Denny Hamlin has a busy few weeks ahead, professionally and personally

Denny Hamlin is no stranger to life in the fast lane, but this week, his schedule is truly overflowing. As he eagerly awaits the birth of his third child, Hamlin is determined to make the most of every moment. “We are in the finals for Hoop Group this week. This is a big week,” he shared on the latest episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast. For Hamlin, “The Hoop Group” isn’t just a casual game. He founded this pickup basketball league at his North Carolina home to unwind and connect with friends, including fellow NASCAR drivers. The league has become a staple for relaxation and camaraderie, offering a welcome break from the relentless pace of the racing world.

But basketball isn’t his only extracurricular. “I have a Golf Guys tournament on Tuesday as well,” Hamlin revealed. The Golf Guys Tour is a unique golf tour within the NASCAR community, featuring drivers, team members, and broadcasters. It’s a private league for NASCAR personalities to compete in a relaxed golf setting. Denny Hamlin’s participation is a testament to his competitive spirit. He approaches every challenge, on or off the track, with the same intensity.

Of course, the main event is the Coca-Cola 600, one of NASCAR’s most grueling and prestigious races. “You have a Crown Jewel race on Sunday,” co-host Jared Allen pointed out. For Hamlin, this is just part of the Charlotte experience. “I don’t know, Charlotte’s always a busy week. It just always is,” he said. Despite the packed schedule, Hamlin insists, “I don’t prepare for it any differently than I do any other race. It’s just another race.” Having won the race in 2022, he knows what it takes to win the grueling 600-mile event, but his qualifying draw might put him in a sticky spot.

Yet, looming over all these events is the most important one: the imminent arrival of his baby boy. “I have another child due in the next 10-11-12 days, kind of, in that range. So, trying to get all these things done before the baby comes, and that way, we have a little more time at home,” Hamlin explained. Hamlin had mentioned in an earlier podcast that the baby is due around June 1st. However, as in most cases, the delivery won’t likely be stretched that far, clashing with the Charlotte race weekend (23-25th May). For Denny, it’s all about balance. He wants to squeeze in every bit of competition and celebration before his family grows by one.

Denny Hamlin doesn’t want his son to follow in his footsteps

Denny Hamlin is known for his intensity on the track, but at home, he’s just Dad. The upcoming arrival of his first son has brought a wave of excitement and a bit of comic relief to the Hamlin household. “I had to have it, man. There was just too many women in the house,” Hamlin joked, referencing his fiancée Jordan Fish and daughters Taylor and Molly. He admitted, “Being the only male in the house other than my dog, I might have had to tap out if we had one more girl.”

With a baby boy on the way, Hamlin’s family dynamic is about to change. But does he want his son to follow in his racing footsteps? Hamlin’s answer is clear: “I am trying to push my kids away from the racing as much as I can.” For now, he’s happy that his daughters have gravitated toward the arts. “The girls, luckily, all they care about is singing, dancing, acting, things like that,” he explained.

Still, Hamlin isn’t closing the door completely. “But the boy, who knows?” he said with a smile. While he’s not shopping for a firesuit onesie just yet, he’s open to whatever passions his son may develop. Hamlin’s humor and honesty show he’s ready for the joys and surprises of raising a boy, whether or not a racing helmet is in his future.

With the baby’s due date coinciding with major NASCAR events, Hamlin’s priorities are clear. Family comes first, even if it means missing the Charlotte race. Thanks to NASCAR’s updated parental leave policy, he can make that choice without risking his playoff hopes. For now, Hamlin is embracing this new chapter—one filled with diapers, lullabies, and maybe, just maybe, a little racing down the road.
