On the eve of the Daytona 500, NASCAR had confiscated some wheels from Team Penske and Roush-Fenway Keselowski Racing. The reason for the same was a suspicion that both those teams had manipulated the wheels to their advantage.

As a result, many wondered what the consequences would be for Penske and RFK should they be found guilty. After all, the new regulations suggest much stricter penalties for those who violate the rules.

There was also a far-fetched hope of whether Daytona 500 winner and Penske rookie, Austin Cindric, will be stripped off his race win.

However, none of those things will happen. NASCAR has concluded that both Team Penske and Roush-Fenway Keselowski Racing aren’t guilty and in no violation of the regulations.

Journalist Jeff Gluck tweeted, “NO PENALTIES for RFK/Penske modifiying their wheels.”

“NASCAR says it met with Next Gen suppliers and teams to discuss the wheels, then “made small adjustments to increase the upper tolerance on pin and pilot bores for Fontana.”

But this news or this judgement didn’t sit well with the NASCAR fans as they showed their frustration in the comments.

Team Penske had notified NASCAR of the modifications according to Roger Penske

In a recent interview with the Racer, Roger Penske described his team had contacted NASCAR and told them what they “needed to modify.”

“We had contacted NASCAR a week before and said that the wheels we were getting were not all the same and we felt we needed to modify the holes where the drive pins go in,” he said.

“We didn’t really get any feedback, and at that point, we went ahead and opened the holes up.”

The team boss suggests that because of so much going on, the communication might not have been back and forth, but they did “certainly” talk about the matter.

This wasn’t something we did under the covers trying to beat anybody,” Penske said.

“It was right there.”
