Over the years, numerous drivers tried out three national series races in a single weekend, and at Darlington, Christopher Bell and Ross Chastain are set to do the same. The JGR and the Trackhouse stars will participate in the Truck, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and the Cup Series. However, the update met with sharp takes from fans, as they pointed out Kyle Busch’s incredible success 16 years ago, who tried a similar stunt.

Christopher Bell and Ross Chastain to follow Kyle Busch’s footsteps?
As per the latest development, Bell will drive his usual #20 Toyota Camry XSE for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Cup Series, the #19 Toyota Camry for the same team in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, and the #62 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro for Halmar Friesen Racing.
On the other hand, Chastain will continue to drive the #1 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Trackhouse Racing in the Cup Series and take charge of the #9 Chevrolet Camaro SS for Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports. In the Truck Series, he will drive the #45 Chevrolet Silverado RST for Niece Motorsports.
Interestingly, Bell and Chastain have already tried the triple header in NASCAR last year, when both of them participated in the Watkins Glen race weekend, and coming into 2026, they are up for another shot at Darlington.
Christopher Bell is running all three NASCAR races at Darlington Raceway this weekend.

– O’Reilly: No. 19 for Joe Gibbs Racing
– Truck: No. 62 for Halmar Friesen Racing— Austin Konenski (@AustinKonenski) March 16, 2026
While the duo is gearing up for it, there are talks about them trying to touch Kyle Busch’s legacy. Over the years, several NASCAR drivers tried out the triple header, but nobody was as successful as the Richard Childress Racing driver.
In August 2010, Busch tried his first-ever triple header and swept all the races. He went on to do it again seven years later in August 2017, and this time, on the same track. Besides him, Kyle Larson also tried, but he was able to claim two wins and a second-place finish. Connor Zilisch has become the youngest driver in NASCAR to try all three when he did the triple header last year. Veterans like Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, and Brad Keselowski have frequently participated in all three national series races, but have been unsuccessful.
With that said, Christopher Bell and Ross Chastain would want to follow Kyle Busch’s footsteps at Darlington this weekend and break the 16-year-old record, which the fans believe can be a hard nut to crack.
Fans react as Bell and Chastain are up for the triple header challenge
A fan wrote, “I see him getting a 4th place finish in it as long as it holds up and he avoids wrecks. Between him, Chastain, Hocevar, and Heim, plus all the regulars, it’ll be a decent challenge, I think.” With this, he wanted to shed light on how Bell and Chastain can face difficulties while trying out the triple header this time.
Another fan wrote, “62 is probably close enough that Bell can make up the difference behind the wheel. Larson would be a big problem tho, Chastain isn’t a slouch either.” With this, he wanted to highlight how Bell will drive a formidable Truck and try to chunk out a result.
Another fan wrote, “A Ross Darlington three-peat would at least make up for all the shit he went through at Phoenix and Las Vegas. But that’ll probably sadly never happen.” With this, he wants Ross Chastain to take the triple header crown, for the wrecks and failures he had in the Cup races at Phoenix and Las Vegas. But also at the same time, he is hopeless.
Another fan wrote, “Obviously, the weak link is the truck. We’ll see. CBell is definitely talented enough.” With this, he tried to conclude that Bell might have a chance to take the triple header, but the Trick Series is his only weak link.
“I don’t see it, and I don’t get the people saying Darlington is an especially good track for Bell. He’s decent there, but that entails running in the top 5 while Hamlin, Briscoe, Reddick, and Truex have routinely dominated Darlington races in Toyota equipment,” wrote another fan. With this, he tried to double down on how Bell might not excel at Darlington, which is often regarded as a happy hunting ground for him.
With that said, it will be interesting to see if Christopher Bell and Ross Chastain can claim a triple header this weekend.
