Taking to social media, Childers wished him, “Happy Birthday to my new boss man [Dale Earnhardt Jr.]!” hinting at the excitement as he prepared to join JR Motorsports in 2026 as a crew chief for the No. 1 team. He will lead efforts alongside rising talent Carson Kvapil and Connor Zilisch, who will share driving duties in the Xfinity Series next year.

Childers’ post comes after a season of change, following his departure from Spire Motorsports earlier in 2025. His resume boasts an impressive 2014 NASCAR Cup Series championship with Kevin Harvick at Stewart-Haas Racing, as well as years of respected leadership across multiple teams.

But for Childers and Junior, their partnership runs much deeper than business. The two go way back to their high school days, having built a friendship that lasted decades. Dale Jr. was known for his radioactive messages, and now it’s the fans’ turn to show their love for the NASCAR Hall of Famer.
