Nine times. That’s how many times Giorgio Maggi’s No. 33 Ford Mustang rolled at Circuit Zolder in Belgium. To say that the wreck was a violent one would be an understatement, with audible gasps being heard in the stands as fans prayed for the 27-year-old’s safety. With the stakes being higher than ever in the final race of the 2025 NASCAR Euro Series PRO division, drivers hit the pedal to the metal as soon as the green flag dropped. But things quickly took a turn for the worse.

Georgio Maggi survives a disastrous wreck
Right in the opening lap, the race was red-flagged because of an incident involving Giorgio Maggi, Jack Davidson, and Claudio Cappelli. Approaching the turn, contact between Maggi and Davidson sent the Swiss’ No. 33 Ford flying off the track, before rolling violently on the sidelines. Debris flew all over the racetrack, while the #22 also looked unrecognizable after the incident.
Thankfully, when Maggi’s car finally came to a stop, it landed right side up, even though it was reduced to just a skeleton while the red flag was being waved. Despite how scary the incident was, all three drivers managed to walk away under their own power later on. Naturally, Maggi was checked into the medical center after the incident, but was later released and sent to a local hospital for further evaluation.

According to the latest updates, he appears to be alert and in good spirits. The incident highlights just how safe the Euro Series cars are, and the roll-cage might’ve just saved Georgio Maggi’s life. Even the commentator couldn’t help but say, “I can’t remember an accident that violent in a NASCAR Euro Series race. Scarcely remember these many rolls in the Cup Series on a Superspeedway.”

Ultimately, Vittorio Ghirelli went on to win the race, going on to say afterwards, “This is an amazing performance. I can’t thank my team, PK Carsport, enough; they’re really unbelievable.” However, despite the season concluding and the next race taking place in 2026 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, the headlines were dominated by Maggi’s horrifying crash. Even fans on social media couldn’t help but weigh in on just how scary the incident was.
Fans open up about Maggi’s horrifying wreck
High-speed crashes are not an anomaly in the NASCAR world. Earlier this year, Ryan Preece survived another airborne crash at Daytona International Speedway, a second such incident in two years. However, Giorgio Maggi’s wreck was arguably even more horrifying, and one Reddit user couldn’t help but say, “Damn, don’t see that kind of speed in a rollover very often.”

As soon as the No. 33 Ford Mustang made contact with Davidson’s vehicle, it rolled violently in the air, and the debris was flying all over the racetrack. This prompted a fan to write, “The sheet metal is held on by Band-Aids, I guess.” Taking a dig at NASCAR’s reactionary measures to such incidents in the sport’s highest level, another Reddit user couldn’t help but make a tongue-in-cheek comment about the sanctioning body’s attempts to influence the aerodynamics of the Next-Gen car. The netizen wrote, “If this happened in Cup, NASCAR would invent a new useless flap of some sort.”
One fan couldn’t help but notice just how long it took NASCAR to wave the caution flag, despite the nature of the incident. Criticizing their delayed response, the stock car racing enthusiast wrote, “That was impressive. Also typical Nascar. Took about a minute to put out the caution. That car obviously wasn’t driving away, and there definitely was debris.” Meanwhile, another social media user couldn’t help but express shock at the situation, going on to say, “Holy sh-t” after witnessing the incident.
