This year, the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum was unlike any other year in the past. The racing action was supposed to be spread over two days, but forecasts of heavy torrential rain forced NASCAR to reschedule the whole event to just one day.This meant that a lot of what was planned had to be canceled. While there was ample entertainment on track, thanks to the high-intensity race and even higher intensity contacts and altercations, several big events got the boot, and it turned out to be a rather lackluster night from the entertainment industry standpoint.

Who were the superstars that had to cancel due to rescheduling?

One of the biggest non-racing attractions of the event was the Machine Gun Kelly concert. The pop star was scheduled to perform during the event. When it was first announced, a lot of fans did not take it too kindly, but there were still some who wanted to see MGK do what he does best. They were left disappointed after weather forecasts derailed the schedule entirely.

The 33-year-old artist took to X to express his disappointment with the whole situation as he hopes to perform at a NASCAR event in the future. “I wish we could change the weather and all the other factors out of our control so that this show was able to happen. hopefully, we can play for you soon @NASCAR i appreciate our fans who were tuned in and showed up anyway, thank you. love,” he tweeted.

MGK was not the only superstar scheduled to play a part in the event. Mexican-born combat sports athlete Canelo Alvarez was also supposed to be in attendance as he would have been the grand marshall. It turns out that Alvaerz’s schedule did not have Saturday open as he, too, was absent from the weekend’s action.

That’s just from the star power side of things. From a racing perspective, there was a big revelation that was to be made on Sunday ahead of the race. However. the change in schedule due to the predicted downpour has forced NASCAR to delay something that is being highly anticipated by the fans.

NASCAR’s first-ever EV was supposed to be unveiled to the fans at the Clash on Sunday. In an ever-changing world, stock car racing needs to evolve and NASCAR understands this. To that end, they have built an EV that would make racing sustainable in the future without causing harm to the environment. They are also looking at Hydrogen-powered cars but for now, the EV is what they have built. David Ragan was supposed to drive it around the track but as things stand, that will have to wait.

This year, the organizers decided to give free access to the audience for the heat races. With the entire event being shifted to a single day, this was not possible at all. Fans may be disappointed, but NASCAR’s hands were tied. A two-day racing action weekend was also shortened to one due to these unforeseen circumstances. NASCAR did put out a statement when the rescheduling was announced.

“Thanks to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Los Angeles Public Safety for their partnership and support to make the schedule adjustment for tonight’s event to ensure a safe experience for fans, competitors, and staff. We understand weather conditions may worsen as the day progresses, so we encourage fans to make decisions in the best interest of safety. We appreciate our fans, partners, and everyone associated with this event on this unprecedented event,” it read as per NBC.

Regardless of the issues, the 2024 Clash at the Coliseum can be considered a success. The event was well planned out, given the circumstances, and the racing action was scintillating.
