One of the best race car drivers to never win the NASCAR Cup Series championship is Geoff Bodine. The 74-year-old won 18 races in the premier stock car racing competition and his best finish in the series was a P3 in 1995. Recently, the motorsports veteran released a book titled “All of It: Daytona 500 Champion Tells the Rest of the Story” and made some shocking revelations. One of them was Bodine’s claim that NASCAR and Goodyear sabotaged his chances of performing well in the 1995 Cup Series season.

When Geoff Bodine snubbed Goodyear for Hoosier and won 3 races
As per the book, the story began in 1994 when Goodyear was not the only tire provider in the sport. Hoosier had also made its way into it, and after some unsuccessful runs with Darrell Waltrip, the company turned to Geoff Bodine, who achieved a decent deal of success with them. The 74-year-old was racing for Geoff Bodine Racing that year and managed to win three races at Pocono, North Wilkesboro, and Michigan.

However, the following year, Hoosier was shown the door and Goodyear was once again the sole tire provider that season. In 1995, Geoff Bodine did not win a single race, which is a bit surprising since he won three, the year before. As per the motorsports veteran, it was because Goodyear had intentionally given him below-par tires as he ran with Hoosier the year before.f
After the revelations were made, the book was discussed at length on the recent episode of The Dale Junior Download podcast and Dale Earnhardt Jr had a hard time believing some of the claims his father’s fierce rival made.
“He helped bring Hoosier into NASCAR in 1994. Darrell Waltrip was the tester originally of Hoosier but wasn’t getting good results so Geoff took over and turned things around”¦he says that year he tested 34 times for Hoosier trying to get that tire off the ground. Hoosier runs in 1994, they have great success with Geoff and then they’re out in the off-season. They don’t come back in 1995. Goodyear is now the sole tire provider again. Geoff claims that Goodyear gave them bad tires on purpose and torpedoed his 1995 season and beyond,” Junior said as he explained the situation to his listeners. And when asked by his co-host if he believes the incident Geoff Bodine talked about, Dale Junior was pretty straight-mouthed with his answer. “No,” he said.

But that’s not where the accusations would stop. The book further went on to state that even NASCAR founder Bill France was involved in sabotaging his season. As per Bodine, France did so at the second Cup Series race of the season at the iconic Daytona International Speedway.

How did Bill France allegedly try to sabotage the former Cup Series driver?
Geoff Bodine took the issue of Goodyear providing him with poor tires intentionally to Bill France, and the owner of NASCAR reportedly did not like that one bit. The two organizations had worked together for several years and an accusation of this level was met with hostility. So, according to Bodine, NASCAR ruined his chances at Daytona at that time by providing him with a small restrictor plate. He still managed a decent P14 finish in the race.
“And he took that theory all the way to Bill France. He said, “Bill! I’m getting bad tires from Goodyear intentionally because I was the Hoosier guy last year’.” And he says that because he took that issue to Bill, Bill France then retaliated and intentionally gave him a small restrictor plate in July for Daytona so that he would fail to make the field,” Junior added.
