The 2023 Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway saw it all. Off-track, the dating rumors between Chase Elliott and famed gymnast Olivia Dunne stole the show. On-track, Team Penske’s Ryan Blaney’s massive crash raised eyebrows on NASCAR’s track safety. And how can we forget about Trackhouse Racing’s Ross Chastain securing his first win of the season, driving down the Victory Lane? But while these highlights at Nashville quickly became the talk of the town, they overshadowed a few in-race dramatic incidents.

Post Chastain’s win, an altercation between Daniel Suarez and Chase Briscoe went unnoticed, with Ty Gibbs having some choice words for the #99’s spotter.

Ty Gibbs Throws Shade at Daniel Suarez’s Spotter

The end of the Ally 400 Cup Series race saw Ross Chastain perform his signature victory celebration. The ‘Watermelon Man’ climbed atop his car, smashing a watermelon. The driver for Pitbull-owned Trackhouse Racing team then feasted on the scattered pieces of the watermelon with fans. But prior to Chastain’s Victory celebrations, the #1 driver was seen driving in the opposite direction post his victory.

Wanting to congratulate his Trackhouse Racing teammate, #99 driver Daniel Suarez cut across the track toward Chastain. With drivers still circling the track before pit entry, Daniel Suarez was hit by Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe

Not expecting the #99 to cut across the track and cause a crash, a furious Chase Briscoe was heard on the radio yelling, “The #99 just wrecked me.”

Suarez, whose right rear tire cambered out due to the impact, was furious too. “The (expletive) #14 just hit me. I was on my way to congratulate the #1 and the #14 hit me, man. On the right rear,” said Suarez.

Narrowly avoiding the carnage, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Ty Gibbs was heard on the radio speaking to Frank Kimmel (spotter for #99). Asking Kimmel to do a better job, the #54 driver said, “Frankie, get a hold of your driver. You’ve got to spot for him more.”

Were Ty Gibbs’s Comments Justified?

According to Ty Gibbs’ words, Frank Kimmel could have cautioned the #99 Trackhouse Racing driver against cutting across the track with cars behind him. With most drivers on the inside line of the track making their way toward the pit road, it looked like Suarez expected the outer lane to be empty. Pointing fingers at each other, neither Suarez nor Briscoe anticipated the crash.

The crash was rather quick. With Ty Gibbs feeling the #99 spotter could have aided in avoiding the mess, a major question remains unanswered. Would a timely warning from Frank Kimmel have been enough to avoid the clash between Daniel Suarez and Chase Briscoe?
