Chase Elliott registered his fifth win of the season at the Talladega Super Speedway. With no big car crashes on the track, the race ran pretty smoothly for the most part. However, a late caution during the final laps of the race infuriated NASCAR fans, in turn giving birth to a new controversy.

Around lap 183, Ryan Blaney was leading the race. However, Daniel Hemric’s #16 car ran out of fuel and remained stalled at the tail end of the pit road. And as a precaution, NASCAR flagged a caution, slowing down the race for a few laps.
At lap 185, the race went back to green as the caution was lifted. At that time, Erik Jones and Ryan Blaney were leading the race, with Chase Elliott, Ross Chastain, Todd Gilliland, and Michael McDowell right behind them. However, Elliott soon drove up the track to his win.
And glad to witness ‘some great moves’ put up by Elliott, former NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr posted a tweet on his account. Earnhardt Jr said that the race was ‘damn fun’ and was glad that no huge wrecks took place on the Talladega track. But a few NASCAR fans didn’t seem to agree with him.
In fact, the Twitter users accused NASCAR of throwing in a late race caution to provide Elliott an opportunity to win. Moreover, a few of them also questioned the governing body’s decision as there was no debris on the track.
The race was boring and if NASCAR didn’t help the golden boy by tthrowing the caution he would never have won. Way do they need to run so many caution laps, when no debris on the track. NASCAR is getting as pathetic as the NFL.

What about a caution coming out with 6 to go for a car stalled on pit road, and wasting 4 laps for it

Nascar threw a caution out to change the outcome of the race. The race was not all that great

Any REAL reason that the last caution took 4+ laps at the largest track on the circuit to take care of? It was an undamaged single car that for some reason they didn’t just push behind the wall??? Why give us 2 laps of racing to end it?

Finally got a good race in, I do understand the need for the last caution although I thought it totally changed the outcome of the race. Hated it came down to only 3 laps.

But whatever the Chase Elliott detractors feel, the Hendrick Motorsports driver took home his fifth Cup Series victory. With a bad race last week at Texas, Chase Elliott’s grand bounce back has secured his place in the next round.

Moreover, he revealed that the last couple of laps were a bit crazy for him. Initially driving at the back of the line during the race, Elliott said that he was happy to clear enough off of turn 2. He said, “Just had a good enough run to get out front and then was able to stay far enough in front of Ryan [Blaney] at the line to get it done. These things are so so hard to win, you gotta enjoy them and just appreciate everyone’s effort today.”
