Aside from being a top NASCAR driver, Denny Hamlin enjoys a bunch of hobbies. One of them is that he is an avid golfer, much like a fair number of other drivers. Owing to this hobby, Hamlin has been rubbing shoulders with various pro golfers.

And recently, he hung out with former World Number 1, Rory McIlroy. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver also revealed that his 23XI Racing co-owner Michael Jordan shared the same passion for golf. And this fact is quite evident because the NBA legend owns a $20 million worth golf course in Florida.

When Denny Hamlin tied with a former world number-one golfer

During a conversation on his podcast Actions Detrimental, Denny Hamlin mentioned, “We went to the puttery down in Charlotte and did some putt-putt. It was kind of like Happy Gilmore putt-putt where you had to bounce off of walls and stuff. Rory McIlroy was there, so I did a little putt-putt with him.

It was a four-hole challenge, I lost by one stroke on the last hole. Tied him and each of the other holes, but me and Rory are both members of Michael’s course down in Florida. So I’d seen him and met him before at the clubhouse.”

Furthermore, Hamlin went on to discuss his much-awaited victory that ended the winless drought that has been ensuing him for over a year.

Denny Hamlin’s victory fight with Kyle Larson

The #11 driver was in a tough spot because he had not had a single win in the 2023 season to date. However, all of that changed at the Kansas Speedway when he really got his elbows out to muscle Kyle Larson out of the way. With that, Hamlin finally managed to hit the ground running and booked his Playoff berth. As for Larson, the contact with Hamlin was just the last thing in a series of unfortunate events.

That all started with Tyler Reddick spinning Larson early on in the race. From there, Larson was forced to try and mount a comeback and snatch a second Cup Series victory.
