Recently, it was confirmed that John Hunter Nemechek and Front Row Motorsports would part ways in 2021. The good news is that the Kyle Busch Motorsports Truck team has offered Nemechek a lifeline. Obviously, the driver is thrilled to get an opportunity to race in the 2021 season.
In the wake of the news, he spoke about the new role. Nemechek said, “There were some things at the end of the year. I didn’t know where I stood on coming back to Front Row Motorsport. Didn’t know if that was going to be an option for me. So when we started looking at options, it kinda came through. I had a great relationship with everyone at Toyota.”
In fact, Kyle Busch admitted that his team needs an experienced head in the truck. This is largely because the 2021 Truck Series schedule includes various events without any practice or qualifying. Owing to this, having someone of Nemechek’s caliber will be a massive boon.
The 23-year-old also revealed that he gets along well with Kyle Busch. According to him, he can learn quite a lot from the #18 Joe Gibbs Racing driver. He also insisted that winning races will help out in the long run, especially in terms of marketability. This is why John Hunter Nemechek will be targeting race wins in 2021.
“I’ve created a pretty good relationship with Kyle as well. I trust Kyle, he’s a great guy, a great driver. I feel like I can definitely learn something from him for sure…Winning never hurts,” Nemechek added.
The driver also admitted that having a bit of experience in Truck racing, and a year in the Cup Series will be helpful. Of course, since there will be several races where drivers cannot practice or qualify, many rookies could struggle. However, he hopes that he can maintain a level of consistency.
In light of this, Nemechek hopes to keep up a steady momentum. He admitted that he and Toyota talked several times and feels that Toyota and Kyle Busch Motorsports will be keen to have someone as experienced as himself.
