Winner of the 2007 Busch Series championship title, Carl Edwards was known for his impressive backflip celebrations. Nicknamed ‘Cousin Carl’, by fans for his likable personality, Edwards competed full-time in NASCAR from 2003 up until 2016. A force to be reckoned with on the track, he was added to NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers list in 2023. Known for his good-guy persona, one wouldn’t imagine Carl Edwards jumping head-on into a physical altercation. But Dale Earnhardt Jr would beg to differ.

Dale Jr Reveals Carl Edwards’ Garage Area Altercation

In 2008, Carl Edwards triggered a massive 12-car wreck at Talladega. Critical of Edwards’ Talladega strategy, Kevin Harvick had a lot of choice words for the then Roush Fenway Racing driver. Unhappy with Harvick’s comments, Carl Edwards confronted Kevin Harvick at the Charlotte Motor Speedway garage the following week, and things got heated quickly. There are multiple accounts of an apparent fight that took place between the two, all painting a different picture.

Now Dale Jr speaking to Matt Kenseth and Mike Davis on his podcast, lent an insight into what went down in Charlotte’s garage stalls. “Carl was a big boy, you didn’t wanna mess with,” said Junior.

To this, Kenseth added, “I don’t think you’d wanna fight Carl, I’ve never seen him fight.”

“I know that (Kevin) Harvick had him in a headlock in the garage area, it was pretty impressive,” said Dale Jr, making a shocking revelation.

Not fully convinced by Junior’s words, Mike Davis said, “Harvick had him in a headlock? Harvick’s bus driver had him in a headlock.” Junior quipped back, saying, “Remember, Carl goes over to the garage, and into Harvick’s garage stall, and I thought they wrestled.”

Admitting that he probably had confused Kevin Harvick for the bus driver, Davis said, “Maybe they did. Maybe this is the same story. I don’t know. But I just know that Harvick’s bus driver, who was freaking strong, just strong dude, and he got Carl in place. That’s the one person I know that Carl doesn’t even stand up to.”

Is Carl Edwards Planning a NASCAR Comeback?

Further revealing how Carl Edwards may join 23XI Racing, Denny Hamlin said, “I have talked to Carl, early on when we started this race team (23XI Racing), about doing some one-off stuff. I’d be interested in that for sure. He does some sim work for us. He’s done some Chicago stuff for us at JGR. I talked to him at that NASCAR 75 celebration and he’s itching a little bit.”
