Currently, Hailie Deegan is driving for Ford in the NASCAR Truck Series. Though, it is interesting to note that she was in the Toyota stable once upon a time. However, she has since shifted to Ford and has been driving for the American manufacturer. In a recent podcast, the David Gilliland Racing driver talked about the switch.

She said, “My dad was actually with Ford back in the day for multiple years. I already knew everyone at Ford, he had relationships with those people. They saw me at a low age, running around. It was honestly kind of a no-brainer for me. I feel like I already knew everyone over there. Had that connection with them, but I also feel like, at Toyota. I never really talked about this much, because it doesn’t get asked much. I was promised a lot of things that weren’t kept.”

“And I kind of laid on those promises. Expecting them because it was, ‘Oh if you do this then. we’ll make sure you’re doing this next’. I was promised so much and didn’t receive.”

Last year, she recorded a best finish of 7th in the Truck Series and finished 17th in the championship. Admittedly, the best Truck Series finish by a female driver goes to Natalie Decker, who was 5th at Daytona in 2020. However, Deegan has a chance to try to match it or even beat it.

For now, the 20-year-old will be focused on the remaining races in the Truck Series calendar. This year, her best finish is a mildly disappointing 17th place. If last year was any proof, she is certainly capable of much more.
