NASCAR, on the outside, is perhaps one of the largest arenas for extreme rivalries, controversies, and criticism. Being one of the top-ranking entertainment businesses in the US, this reputation is quite justified. However, on the inside, NASCAR is also a story of teamwork and fair play, baked with a warm sense of keenness. Countless families thrive behind the garages of NASCAR.

And when any one member of those families struggles, the others jump in to help. Even if they cannot help, they pray so that their families prosper. Shortly after the Cup race ended at Watkins Glen International, a shocking revelation came. Soon after, the Tommy Baldwin Racing team had the entire community pitch in their prayers for the team owner.

Tommy Baldwin, 56, is putting his Whelen Modified Tour NASCAR team on hiatus as he is going through treatment for the most malignant disease in the world. Although treatable, this six-letter word sends chills down the spines of every human being out there.

C-A-N-C-E-R. Since April, Baldwin has served as the competition director at Rick Ware Racing. On Sunday, Tommy posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Today, I post with news that no one ever wants to hear. I have cancer. It’s treatable, but this past week of racing will be the last for a while for the Tommy Baldwin Racing team. Going to take a break and begin treatment to beat it into the ground.”

Soon, fans started sending in their wishes for his speedy recovery in the comments section.

A fan left several words of kindness, instilling hope: Hang in there, Tommy. I am 6 years in remission. Treatment sucks but it works! My best recommendations would be if you are getting chemo, the entire season of The Wire. Hydrate but make sure to get electrolytes! And just try to remember that there is light in that tunnel (turn)”

Another cancer survivor said, “This cancer survivor is sending you all the good vibes. I hope you get to ring the bell asap!”

A fan threw light on the terror of Cancer by saying, “So sorry to see this. I waited to(o) long before I went and was stage 4. I know of someone with my exact symptoms that waited and it got to his brain and he was gone in 3 months. I have been on chemo a year and a half. If you feel off get checked the time is important.”

The former fueler for Dale Earnhardt Danny Myers commented on Baldwin’s post; “Hey Tommy it’s Chocolate. Just got through 6 months of intense chemo. It was pretty tough. Some days better than others. But treatment is kinda like the racing season. It goes by pretty fast. If you need me, Beth knows how to get in touch.”

Six-time NWMT champion Doug Coby opened his heart on X for his boss. He said the family and personal relationships are far superior to contentions on the track.

Back in May, Coby had lifted the flag of TB Racing in the victory lane of Monadnock Speedway. However, he has swerved all his attention and goodwill at the remission of Baldwin’s fatal ailment.

He said, “My thoughts are with TB and his family as he begins treatment, and I know the racing community will rally around him with nothing but love and encouragement. You got this TB and we got you!”
