Youngster Harrison Burton has credited Denny Hamlin for helping him grow as a racer. Burton finished an impressive third place in the Kansas Lottery 250 race of the NASCAR Xfinity Series at Kansas Speedway on Saturday.

Burton and Denny Hamlin are both teammates for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series. The 19-year-old Burton said that the big dog of the sport, Hamlin, has had a positive influence on him and has been helping him a great deal.

Burton finished third at Kansas, just behind Brandon Jones and Austin Cindric.

Learned a lot from Denny Hamlin, says Harrison Burton

The young driver was impressive throughout the race and sealed a podium place as a result. Speaking to NASCAR.com after the race, Burton was asked about his performance.

“I think our team did everything right. I learned a lot this week from Denny Hamlin about what he tries to do mentally,” Burton replied.

“On the radio, I have learned a lot from him and tried to use some of that on Austin (Cindric) and showed him the fast line, I thought. I knew it was going to wear out our tires,” he added.

Burton threw more light on the final phase of the race. “I just messed up on the last restart. We were in a bad situation behind the 39, but I needed to do better to be able to take advantage of that situation and still get a win,” Burton expressed.

We saw Brandon coming in from a few rows back. Its something I have to work on, I guess. I’m really proud of our speed. It just was not enough,” the young man added.
