At the World Wide Technology Speedway, there was a feud between Denny Hamlin and Ross Chastain. On the track, Chastain raged at Hamlin, especially when the Joe Gibbs Racing driver retaliated. When the race concluded, the Trackhouse Racing driver suddenly acted repentant and took responsibility. However, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was not buying the act at all and admitted that it was weird.

He said, “It was so weird. It’s like a boy walks into the Seven-Eleven and shoplifts. Walks out and you catch him red-handed. He goes, ‘Ah yeah, shouldn’t have done that. Darn, I know I messed up. Yep, you got me’. All the while, he’s trying to walk off with that piece of candy he picked up.”

“He’s like, ‘Man! If I profusely apologise, maybe I get to keep this candy’. His words after the race were bullsh*t! He did [take responsibility], but he poured it on so thick! At one point I almost thought he might be mocking us.”

Of course, Dale Jr acknowledged that a part of Chastain was sincere in his apology. However, he also admitted that while Ross Chastain might have berated himself, he doesn’t truly believe it. At the end of the day, the Trackhouse Racing driver knew that he was at fault for his stunts with Hamlin. Though he wasn’t above doing it all over again, especially with the way he ran the rest of the race.

Later on, when Hamlin was on his quest for revenge, Chastain snarkily said that NASCAR should be ‘proud’ of their stars. However, once he was out of the car, the #1 driver did a sudden volte-face and made himself out to be apologetic.
