Dale Earnhardt Jr is disheartened to witness fans lose passion for one of NASCAR’s best attractions
In the latest episode of the ‘Dale Jr Download’ podcast, the community saw a broken Dale Jr as he laid the foundation for the saddening present scenario of the sport. Joining his friend, Mike Davis, Dale Jr expresses his sorrow, to say, “all that steam is slowing down.”
Dale Jr said, “Nobody is all fired up about short tracks anymore. Which really really sucks because that’s the core, that’s the core that’s where the sport was born and made, and um we should be eagerly, aggressively working to make sure that, that is something, a product that we are extremely proud of and cannot wait to revisit week after week.”
While Dale Jr talks about the recent and apparent dislike of the short track format, Davis quickly jumps in to make his point loud and clear, “Yeah, feels like we’re losing our identity.”

As the veteran driver perfectly puts it across, “My heart breaks because we went from begging for more short tracks, lets drop back about 3 or 4 years, short track racing was our best product. We were begging, there was t-shirts out there, more short tracks, everybody was hashtagging it on social media and now that idea of the sport sort of cycling back around, North Wilkesboro is coming back and more other short tracks are being considered and you know Fontana, California turning into short track, all that steam is slowing down.”
And it is the shift in the scenario that breaks Dale’s heart.
