When FanBuzz asked who the greatest NASCAR driver of all time is, NASCAR enthusiasts poured in their opinions in the comment section. Most of the comments were in favor of NASCAR Hall of Famer Richard Petty. Calling him ‘King Richard,’ a user commented, “The King Richard for sure. He raced when racing was the best.”
While another wrote, “The one and only, Richard Petty!” Further, a fan called Petty the greatest of all time and left the comment “Richard Petty, The King, The Goat!” Explaining why Petty is the best, a fan commented, “R.petty 7 championships, 200 wins ,10 wins in a row, most second place finishes.”
Apart from Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr was the next best favorite. Explaining why Earnhardt Sr is the best, a user wrote, “I’m going with Earnhardt Sr. He didn’t have the most wins or championships, it his instincts, nerve and talent was far better than most I’ve in my lifetime.”
While another one said, “Dale Earnhardt SR. Most of the other big winners like Richard Petty and his competers drove Factory backed Fords and Chryslers, factory backed cars dominated stock car racing back then, and naturally so ! Backed by a FACTORY !”

However, shockingly, a Hendrick Motorsports legend was left out. Looking at the comment section, it was clear that except for maybe a few, no other NASCAR fans remembered to give a shout-out to the seven-time Cup Series Champion, Jimmie Johnson.
The comparison between the three is inevitable as although Richard Petty is the first to win Cup Series championship seven times, Dale Earnhardt and Jimmie Johnson soon tied with his record.
The Dale Earnhardt Sr and Richard Petty Saga
Although Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty did not spend much time fighting against each other on the track, there are a few memories of the two together. During a conversation with Earnhardt’s son, Dale Earnhardt Jr, ‘King’ Petty shared his first encounter with the ‘Intimidator.’
When the duo met for the first time, Petty was already a Cup Series star. And Earnhardt was just starting out as a full-time Cup Series driver. Looking back with Richard Petty about how his dad caused a nine-car wreck at the 1980 Virginia 500, Dale Earnhardt Jr shared a Tweet in 2018.
