On Sunday night, the YellaWood 500 Cup Series race at the Talladega Superspeedway came to an end. The track was always notorious for triggering multi-car pile-ups, popularly known as ‘The Big One’ and 13 cautions ensured that excitement was present at every turn. In light of this, Brad Keselowski had plenty to say about the multiple accidents.

He said, “I hope Tony Stewart’s watching. He’d be proud. We wrecked every car in the field. I wrecked four times in somebody else’s mess. The runs are just so fast, and everyone just wants to walk, and the runs are just too fast to block. We made it through somewhat okay, I guess.”

Keselowski ultimately finished in 18th, after being in the thick of the action for a while. At least 26 cars bit the concrete wall during Sunday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway.

After a disappointing finish, the #2 driver is now focusing on next weekend’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The North Carolina race marks the final race in the Round of 12 Playoffs before the grid is whittled down to 8 drivers.

Brad Keselowski is nestled comfortably in 5th place in the playoff standings. However, he knows that this is not a stage where he can allow complacency to settle. The 36-year-old insisted that even though he may seem comfortable in the championship, he still needs a good race to qualify.

He concluded, “We got a decent points cushion going into the (Charlotte) Roval, but that’s going to be a madhouse. That’s going to be a lot of cars next week that are going to need a big race, so I hope we can get through with a solid day.”

Keselowski can also take comfort in the fact that he was not the only playoff driver to face misfortune in Talladega. Nearly half the field got wiped out over the course of the race, so it would have thrown several drivers’ playoff hopes in jeopardy.

As a result, the Penske driver is afraid that many of his playoff rivals will try to get ahead by hook or by crook. Exciting times ahead!
