When Kyle Larson wrecked Ty Dillon during the recent Cup race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, many assumed that it happened because of a mechanical failure on his #5 Chevy Camaro. After all, such was the trajectory, speed, impact, and reputation of the driver involved that it couldn’t have come from his own doing.

However, that theory, those assumptions, can go to bed.

According to a recent report, Larson running into Dillon was indeed the defending champion’s fault and not something that came at the hands of a problem in his car.

“Our teammate Bob Pockrass talked to the team today, and they said there was no parts failure, coming from the team, that it was simply a driver error,” a NASCAR expert revealed speaking on a show.

Journalist Bob Pockrass also tweeted his report on the incident as he wrote, “Checked with Hendrick Motorsports and they didn’t see any sign of brake failure in the Larson car following the wreck.” 

This prompted a question from a fan who wondered whether the throttle of Larson’s car was stuck, if not the brakes, to which Pockrass replied, “they didn’t see any mechanical failures.”

Ty Dillon reacts to the heavy wreck involving Kyle Larson

Speaking about this wreck in a post-race interview, Ty Dillon described it as the worst one of his career in terms of impact.

“I didn’t see a whole lot. I saw a blue flash and I’ve never been hit so hard in my life,” Dillon said. “I’m grateful the good Lord was looking out for me and these cars are so safe.”

Now that it has been established it was Kyle Larson’s fault, this wreck, it’d be interesting to see how he explains the whole incident from his perspective.

What’s worth appreciating though is that the Hendrick Motorsports driver ran straight to Dillon after the wreck, which could’ve been way worse than what it was.
