Recently, the ESPN Twitter handle decided to spark one of the toughest sports debates. In essence, the Twitter handle asked its followers to name a random ‘G.O.A.T’. For the uninitiated, it stands for, “Greatest Of All Time”, and this is an extremely difficult question to answer. However, the Hendrick Motorsports team pitched the names, Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson into the fray.
Both Gordon and Johnson are excellent racers in their own right and are multiple-time Cup Series champions. While Jimmie Johnson is a 7-time Cup Series winner, Gordon has 4 Cup Series titles to his name.
Obviously, there may be a hint of bias, since both drivers raced for Hendrick Motorsports. However, nobody can deny that the two drivers have had stellar careers in the NASCAR scene.

What are Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon up to now?
Jeff Gordon hung up his boots at the end of the 2015 season, restricting himself to a handful of races in 2016. However, Jimmie Johnson has soldiered on; however, the 2020 season will be his final full-time season.
From then on, he will be competing in the IndyCar series, with chances of a few NASCAR cameos. However, the 2020 season is not yet over for Johnson.
Although he didn’t make it into the Playoffs, he is still racing and is eager to complete his NASCAR career with Hendrick Motorsports. Likewise, Jeff Gordon has also spent his entire career with Hendrick Motorsports, right from 1992. Johnson only joined the Cup series nearly a decade later in 2001, again with Hendrick Motorsports.

Jeff Gordon is also a Hall of Fame inductee, while Jimmie Johnson’s invitation won’t be too far away. Johnson also has one record that will stand the test of time. To be precise, he has registered five consecutive Cup Series titles. No other driver has ever achieved that feat, not even the likes of Dale Earnhardt of Richard Petty.
