The goal isn’t to live forever, the goal is to create something that will remain forever. Just like the legacy that each NASCAR champion leaves behind. The Champion’s Journal is one of the best-guarded secrets of the sport. And now the responsibility to carry it forward lands on the 2021 winner and Hendrick Motorsports driver, Kyle Larson.

In around 2011, the tradition of handing down a journal began. Apparently, the reigning champion pens down a message for the new winner. And since then, drivers like Jimmie Johnson, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick, and Brad Keselowski have passed down messages for the new champions each year.

And now, with the final 2022 Cup Series race around the corner, it’s Kyle Larson who needs to pass on his words to the new champion. This season, Larson could not make it to the final 4 of the series. However, the Hendrick Motorsports driver admits he is quite excited about passing on the journal.

The Champions journal has been a closely guarded secret for over many years. So much so, that its mere existence was safely hidden for around 5 years. Only in 2017 did people come to know about this NASCAR tradition. And even today people have no idea about its contents.

In his recent media interaction, Larson revealed that he has taken all the necessary steps to safeguard the contents of the journal. Talking about how he has guarded it for the past year, and what he will do about it now, Larson said, “I read it all, everybody’s pages, and stuck it in my safe, and it’s been sitting there for close to a year now. I’ll get home, pull it out and probably practice my handwriting and make sure it looks pretty.”

“I haven’t opened it since I got it. I think it’s so special you want to just read it once or twice and I think reading it once when you get it and then once again before I give it to the next guy. It’s an extremely special book. And I think that was the thing I was most excited about from winning the championship last year — was to receive that.”

Furthermore, Larson said that he would love for the journal to pass on to him again. So that, he could read the messages passed on to the champions since his first win.
