William Byron is without a doubt one of the most promising young drivers currently in NASCAR. Add to the fact that he is driving in the #24, a car synonymous with the word legend thanks to its association with Jeff Gordon. Byron has all that it takes to set milestones of his own, surpass those ahead of him, and become one of the greats.

Byron could very well surpass one such milestone in the coming season, which would take him and his #24 into a very exclusive club of NASCAR royalty. As things stand heading into 2023, the #24 has a total of 97 wins, with 93 credited to Gordon and 4 to Byron.

Should Byron win three more races in the coming season, he would take his racecar into a club that only has four other members. There’s the #2, the #3, the #43, and the #11. It’s no surprise that all four numbers in this club are associated with four of the most prolific drivers in NASCAR history: Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Junior Johnson, and Bobby Allison.

Byron winning three races in 2023 isn’t that farfetched of a possibility either. He had his best season in 2022 with two wins and 746 laps led.

“Luckily, Jeff and I are pretty close and we were able to have a lot of conversations about my learning process and how to improve. They gave me a lot of time, they gave me a lot of time and resources just to develop,” Byron said in an episode of the Boomer Chats podcast. “I was lucky to have that.”

The shocking number of wins of the winningest NASCAR Car

While the winningest drivers in NASCAR history are Richard Petty, David Pearson, and Gordon, the title of the racecar number with the most wins belongs to neither of these three.

It’s the #11 which has a total of 228 wins, 28 more than the #43’s tally of 200.

Drivers such as Bobby Allison and Darrel Waltrip (84 wins each), Mario Andretti (1), Buddy Baker (19), Bill Elliott (44), and Denny Hamlin (48) have all driven and won plenty of races for the #11 to take it to the heights where it stands today.
