Last month, NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson revealed the look of his new no. 48 car in the IndyCar Series. Johnson had also contributed to the design of the new machine.

Now, in an interesting move, fans can have a say in deciding the design or paint scheme of Johnson’s car for five races in his debut IndyCar season.

Carvana, the primary sponsor for Johnson’s IndyCar team, is allowing fans to choose the paint scheme for the no. 48 car through various options posted on the website. The campaign, called ‘Drive the Vote’, is for Johnson’s paint scheme for the GMR Grand Prix, on May 15 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

What are the paint scheme options for fans to choose from?

The team has provided three options for the fans to choose from. Those are Blue Steel, Sir Laps A Lot, and Indy Tuxedo. They are all different shades and combinations of blue. Admittedly, each paint scheme option looks quite classy.

360-degree photo technology allows users to zoom in and focus on specific features of the car as they make their choice. The campaign is a unique and innovative way to engage fans in Johnson‘s debut season in a new racing discipline.

Currently, the voting is open only for the Indianapolis race. However, fans will also be able to vote for Johnson’s paint schemes for four more races in the 2021 IndyCar Series season.

Those races will be held on June 12-13 at Detroit Belle Isle, on July 4 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, on August 8 at Music City Grand Prix in Nashville, and the September 12 race will be at Portland International Raceway.

Johnson himself gave his thoughts on the new initiative. He praised the idea of the campaign, which gives his fans a unique chance to directly contribute to the design of his iconic cars.

This is going to be a really fun program. My fan base is really passionate, and Carvana has come up with a great way to make the fans the decision-makers and have ownership in what they see out on the track this season,” Johnson said. “The designs are all really sharp. And it will be interesting to see which ones they will pick.”

The seven-time champ is being missed in the NASCAR 2021 season. However, he will be highly focused on his new challenge in IndyCar Series. Johnson’s season starts at the Barber Motorsports Park on April 18.
