We’re eight races into the season and Denny Hamlin hasn’t won a race yet. The last time this was the case, we were in 2021, but he had much better finishes in the races at this point of the season than he has now.

He’s currently 12th in the standings with two top 10s, four top 20s, and two finished outside the top 20.

Perhaps that is why Hamlin found himself on the wrong end of a rant by Chopper on Steve Letarte’s podcast show.

Denny Hamlin gets blasted on Steve Letarte’s podcast show

During a recent episode of Letarte’s podcast show, Dirty Mo Dough, which comes under the same umbrella as Hamlin’s podcast show Actions Detrimental, Chopper blasted the #11 driver for the state of his season.

“Every week. I mean, what week is it? Every week. The guy’s awful. He cannot finish a freaking race,” he said which led Steve Letarte to chime in with, “..which used to be his strong suit.”

“‘Oh look, I’m top three running position every week.’ Well great. What about your finishing position? 25th. 23rd. ‘Well I’m a wreck this guy’. 2oth. Well, well done. ‘I suck at the dirt’. Okay, 25th,” Chopper continued. “What the hell?”

He then emphasized, “How bad it is” by giving an example of his mother who is a Denny Hamlin fan.

“She’ll call me damn at the end of every race. ‘What the hell happened to Denny? He was running 3rd or 4th or 5th. He’s 23rd,'” he described.  “Well guess mom, he’s a lawn chair.”

“He can’t finish. Folds up. That’s it.”

Is Hamlin having a slightly better season than Bubba Wallace?

While Bubba Wallace has been getting a lot of flak from his critics for how his season has turned out so far, it’s not that worse from his boss Denny Hamlin’s in terms of finishes. He’s had three finishes outside the top 20 compared to the two for Hamlin.

He’s had two finishes inside the top 20 compared to the four of Hamlin, and Wallace has had 1 finish inside the top 5, somewhere Hamlin hasn’t had a finish yet this season.

So it’ll be interesting to see if Hamlin’s situation worsens or improves in the coming races because where he’s at now and where he has been ending his races at lately, it certainly isn’t the place his team or his fans would want him to be.
