Looks like the Yankees nailed it with their decision to get Jazz Chisholm Jr. on board. Derek Jeter’s advice wasn’t turned a blind eye, and right now, after the former Marlins centerfielder’s heroics, the team must be thrilled they listened. In just a matter of a day, Chisholm made history with the team and went on to become the first player in the franchise to hit four home runs in his first three games in pinstripes.

But his performance didn’t manage to turn all heads! Jazz Chisholm Jr. leaped and danced, and in just his third game with the Yankees, he hit two home runs for the second night in a row. However, despite Jazz’s performances making waves right from the start, MLB analyst Gary Sheffield, who is no stranger to voicing his opinions, had something else to say.

Gary Sheffield douses Jazz Chisholm’s fiery streak with criticism

Jazz Chisholm Jr didn’t just make a lukewarm entrance with his Yankees debut. On Tuesday, he offered a major boost to the Yankees offense, belting two home runs and knocking five RBIs. One of those home runs was off Phillies ace Aaron Nola, and a big three-run blast later in the game that helped seal the victory. This performance, in an almost déjà vu way, mirrors the previous game when Chisholm also hit two home runs. With four homers in his first three games at Yankees, he just made history.

But while fans are endeared by his performance, not everyone is looking at the recent joinee as the “next big thing.” Gary Sheffield suggested that Jazz Chisholm Jr. is ‘not a star’, despite his history-making start for the Yankees. He tweeted,He’s not a star but he can be a very productive player for the Yankees. Very.”

Moreover, Gary Sheffield isn’t the only person criticizing Chisholm. The Athletic’s MLB player poll, which surveyed 59 players across the league, named Chisholm as the most overrated player in baseball. Also, an ex-marine executive echoed the same sentiment as Sheffield!

David Samson dismisses Jazz Chisholm’s success and Jeter’s influence

“To be part of the history of the New York Yankees is one of the sickest things anybody in baseball can hear” — Jazz Chisholm Jr. expressed, more than thrilled to be where he is right now. However, former baseball executive David Samson, who was the Marlins team president from the year 2002-17, didn’t share this excitement. Samson was at The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz on Wednesday, where he called Chisholm Jr. “average.”

Further, he even dismissed all the stories about Derek Jeter being Chisholm’s idol. He said, “That was all [Derek] Jeter doing that. All the talk of Jeter being his idol. It was all ridiculousness. Jazz needed to be traded off this team, and the fact that he was given to the Yankees, whatever happens with the Yankees is fine. He’s not the star; he’s not the center of attention.”

Samson explained that while Chisolm has gotten a solid start, and it may have given him some sort of false sense of attention, but its smart to wait. He said, “But wait ’til he goes 1-for-13 in New York. In Miami, it gets ignored with one camera. In New York, you’re on the back page of The Post. So be careful what you wish for.”
