History Repeats Itself As Kevin Harvick Beats Matt Kenseth at the Brickyard Again

Kevin Harvick asserted his second successive Brickyard 400 triumph and history repeated itself. Harvick held off Matt Kenseth to win Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway just like he did in 2003.

Kevin Harvick drove the most laps (68) yet didn’t get the lead for the last time up to that point race leader Denny Hamlin blew a right-front tire with six of the planned 160 laps remaining.

Harvick said to NBC Sports, “We knew (Hamlin) was gonna be really close on tires. Rodney (Childers, crew chief) told me on the radio, ‘Just make sure you keep the pressure on him,’ and that was all the pressure I could give. Those guys do a really good job.”

He added, “I’ve just got to thank everybody who is a part of this program and just keeps bringing good race cars to the race track.”

History Between Kevin Harvick & Matt Kenseth

History repeats itself. It indeed happened during the Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Kevin Harvick won the race while Matt Kenseth was able to secure the 2nd position.

The same instance happened during the 2003 Brickyard 400. It was the 10th event at the speedway. Kevin Harvick used to drive for Richard Childress Racing team while Matt Kenseth was driving for Roush Racing during that season.

The success is the fourth of the NASCAR Cup Series season for Kevin Harvick. All the wins came since the game restarted in May from a two-month rest because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s likewise the 53rd win of his vocation.

Harvick joins Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson as the main drivers to win consecutive Brickyard 400. Aric Almirola completed third, Brad Keselowski was fourth and Custer balanced the best five. Finishing the best 10 were Kyle Busch, Michael McDowell, Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, and Joey Logano.

It was a well-executed strategy for the Stewart-Haas Racing team.

Harvick raced to his 53rd triumph to move inside one of tying Lee Petty for eleventh on NASCAR’s list. Individual Stewart-Haas driver Chase Briscoe won the Xfinity Series race on Saturday.
