For the better part of the 2010s, GoDaddy received its fair share of criticism over controversial and overtly provocative advertisements. Keeping in mind that a lot of them aired during the Super Bowl, the commercials received a whole lot of viewership. Back in 2012, NASCAR driver Danica Patrick was seen in one such advert for the company.

In one particular advertisement, Patrick and another woman were seen painting over a naked woman’s body while promoting GoDaddy’s new dot co-domain. During the half-a-minute-long commercial, the other woman asks Patrick, “Who won’t notice a hot model in body paint?” and Patrick promptly responds, “True, she stands out like a hot new dot co.” The video ends with multiple shots of the painted parts of the naked model’s body before cutting to a GoDaddy Banner with a voice-over.

That woman was probably right, who wouldn’t notice that? Everyone did. This was just one of many such advertisements where Patrick showed up as a GoDaddy Girl.

Danica Patrick was sponsored by GoDaddy in both NASCAR and IndyCar

GoDaddy began working with Patrick as early as 2006 and remained with her for the duration of her IndyCar career. However, when she decided to make the move to NASCAR, reports emerged that Patrick and her sponsor would do away with their partnership.

However, that partnership termination was short-lived, later on, when Patrick announced that she’d be participating in a doubleheader with the Indy500 and the Daytona 500, as the final races for her career, GoDaddy announced that they would be partnering with her once again.

Many had questioned whether it made sense for the company to continue sponsoring her considering that she would not be able to even get into the Daytona 500. A representative of the company responded and stated, “Like Danica, GoDaddy isn’t afraid to take risks. We believe in Danica. We’re all in. I appreciate the question, but we’re not going to spend time worrying about that. We’re confident the right team is going to fall into place very soon.”
