As it turns out, there are three types of IndyCar contracts. First and foremost is the rookie contract, followed by a journeyman contract, and a contract for a recognizable star, possibly a champion.

In the case of rookie drivers graduating from the Indy Lights program, they earn between $250,000 and $300,000. In addition to that, they also have opportunities to rope in a few sponsors and make some extra money. Journeymen earn between $800,000 to $1,000,000, while the champion drivers earn more than $1 million.

Jimmie Johnson will be keen to do well at the Indianapolis 500

Even though this is his second season in IndyCar, Johnson is competing in the Indy 500 for the first time. So far, he has been performing at a respectable level all through practice and testing.

This is when he truly thrives on the track and delivers excellent results for the Chip Ganassi Racing. Since the Indy 500 is an oval racetrack, it is only logical that Johnson stands a real chance of a great result. Though we can not be sure of his victory, as anything can happen in a race.
