When the 2021 season began, 23XI Racing had some bold targets in mind. However, it seems like poor old Bubba Wallace has not been able to achieve them.

Wallace was well-known for driving for under-funded teams. However, he has hit the big-time with the Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan venture, 23XI Racing.

Unfortunately, that has not exactly translated into on-track success, apart from one Top-10 finish this season. When he drove for Richard Petty Motorsports, he racked up five Top-10s.

Now the African-American driver needs to win within the next four races in order to seal a playoff berth. Ahead of Daytona, Jordan declared that Wallace will soon have a couple of wins under his belt. Unfortunately, things have not worked out that way.

“It’s about taking the next step at this point,” Hamlin said. “I think my question to the team is, ‘What’s next? How do we now move that up?’ When you look at data and everything, the car has a ton of potential.

“How can we optimize Bubba, the entire team’s performance, pit crew and everything, to get better? Because making the step to get in the top 10 consistently, gaining those three to four spots we need to be in the top 10 consistently, that’s a big step.”

What has 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace said about his performance?

Unlike his partner, Denny Hamlin is trying to be more realistic with his expectations. However, Bubba Wallace has not discussed his performances with the NBA legend.

The driver feels that it is more of a conversation reserved between Jordan and Hamlin. Instead, the 23XI Racing driver is just going to focus on doing what he does best-driving.

Without a doubt, Wallace has had his fair share of critics, but he is still a hugely popular driver. However, it is interesting to note that he was not consulted on the prospect of 23XI Racing landing a second charter.

As it turns out, 2004 Cup Series champion Kurt Busch is one of the favorites. However, Wallace will now have to train his focus on the remaining four regular season races.
