Kyle Busch, Brexton Busch and Kyle Larson
“From the age of five, Kyle Larson has only wanted to be a race car driver, and now as he comes to the checkered flag, Kyle Larson is going to win in the Sprint Cup Series,” explained the commentator, as Yung Money rounded out the final corner at the 2016 Pure Michigan 400. His future teammate, Chase Elliott, was close in tow, just a second behind, but it was all about the 24-year-old who had just won his first race.
He had his life built around racing right from the start. Not surprisingly, the prodigal driver attended his first race a week after his birth. Since then, his streak of accolades, including a magnificent NASCAR Cup Series Championship in 2021, multiple dirt racing titles, and victories in the Chili Bowl Nationals, has continued to shock many.
With the same formula, Kyle Busch is carefully drawing up another career, much like Kyle Larson’s, for his 9-year-old B-Rex! Inspired by Larson’s path through dirt tracks and stock cars, Busch is laying the groundwork for Brexton to not just race, but to excel across many streams.

While talking to Freddie Kraft, Tommy Baldwin, and Karsyn Elledge on this week’s Door Bumper Clear episode following the Talladega weekend, Kyle Busch admitted that he was aiming for his son to be another track champion. “To me, I look at Kyle — Tiny Kyle Larson. I would say he is obviously one of the top talents right now in our space and in the dirt world space too,” Busch said. “He can get in anytime and go fast.” Tiny Kyle has been a nickname for Larson that Busch came up with at the Pennzoil 400, taking a cheeky dig at Yung Money’s height. Regardless, Rowdy’s point still stands.
It has been a hallmark of Larson’s career that he was able to jump into any car, on any surface, and immediately be competitive. Whether it was conquering the Chili Bowl Nationals in Midget cars, dominating in Sprint Car races with the World of Outlaws, fighting for an IndyCar race, or winning NASCAR’s crown jewel events like the Coca-Cola 600, Larson has shown incredible versatility through the years.
“So, I feel like in the Dirt World, having that kind of expertise, and feeling comfortable crooked, and being sideways and having the grip has helped him a lot over the years,” Busch explained. “And just being able to carry cars further than they’re probably potentially worth. The Junior Sprints, the Micros, and maybe Midgets one day of being in the Dirt World. I don’t know if he needs to go Sprint Car racing, although he wants to. Mom definitely doesn’t wanna go that path,” Busch revealed with a laugh.

While his father mentions an open choice, young B-Rex has already picked up victories at Junior Sprints, including at the prestigious Tulsa Shootout. He then moved up to Restricted Micros and earned a championship at Millbridge Speedway. More recently, Brexton also raced in 600cc Winged Micros, even sharing the track with Papa Busch.

But keeping in mind that failures will be important to him, Busch says, “Honestly, he’s not suffered in many things. He’s been really good right out of the box in all the things he’s done. For a lot of dads around the country, budget is everything. You only have so much money to do whatever you can do. And so, with Brex, we’re wide open with all the things.”

Samantha Busch keeps B-Rex grounded amid Kyle’s plans
As Kyle Busch mentions, Brexton’s mother certainly does not approve of her child joining the men’s club so early on. While most racing careers build from a young age, drivers often lose out on crucial schooling years. This has been Samantha’s concern for their 9-year-old as well. Kyle explains: “Kids go to school, right? My kid goes racing and does school on the side… But no, mom [Samantha Busch] is very focused on the school piece, which I am too. She makes sure that, ‘Hey, look, you don’t have to have straight As but at least have passing grades, and let’s get through the school thing ’cause you have to have the school thing.’”
But it’s not just this problem the Busch parents face when it comes to young Brexton. As Kyle once explained, “There are times where I want to get on him about something and I’ll tell him and he’s like, ‘I’m trying that or I’m doing that or the car is terrible or it stinks, it’s not fast enough.’ And I’m like, ‘Hold on a second, you got the best money can buy, all right? Sometimes it’s not our problem, it’s your problem. So, you’ve got to figure it out.”
