Charlotte Motor Speedway’s tribute follows tributes from many other tracks throughout the season. Since Johnson announced his plans to retire from full-time racing at the end of the season, the honors have flown in at almost every track he has raced at.
The Las Vegas Motor Speedway named their infield tunnel road after Johnson. “The next time you drive through the tunnel, you’ll be driving down Jimmie Johnson Way! #OneFinalTime,” they said in a tweet.
In another big tribute, the Richmond Raceway named a pedestrian tunnel after the 45-year-old driver, naming it ‘The Jimmie Johnson Champions Walk’.

Johnson expressed his admiration for the honors he is receiving every other week.
“Throughout my career, I have had some highs and lows at Richmond on the track. I’ve enjoyed cycling around the area and have grown to appreciate racing there so much more over the years. This is a huge honor and its humbling as I visit these tracks for the final time. To accept these wonderful gifts,” Johnson said.
