The Cup Series trophy is the biggest award in NASCAR; the one thing everyone is vying for. However, sometimes things don’t go as planned and drivers must take consolation in another trophy. This season, the battle for it went down to the wire between Chase Elliott and two others.

While Joey Logano took home the Cup Series, other drivers were left battling for the Most Popular Driver award. This year’s award was particularly interesting after, both, Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch put out their ‘campaign’ posts on social media to garner votes from fans.

Unfortunately for the two, Chase Elliott won it for the 5th time in a row. He has now joined an elite list of drivers. Only he, Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Bill Elliott have won the award 5 times or more.

After winning, he left a message for his loyal fans – “Hey guys! I’m here at the NASCAR awards show in Nashville. I just wanna say a quick thank you to all of our fans across the country and the world even. I hear of people traveling quite a long distance to watch us this year which is cool. So, thank you guys for the votes, thank you for supporting us throughout the season.”

He added, “Looking forward to 2023 and seeing a lot of you back out on the track here in just a couple of months. So like I said, much appreciated. Hope everybody has a merry Christmas, and a happy New Year. And we’ll see you in LA.”

That’s one win he will savor after a disappointing end to the season in Phoenix!
