Denny Hamlin cruised to victory in the Pocono race, but his victory was short-lived. NASCAR announced that the top two cars of race winner Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch had been disqualified. The ruling came into effect after the post-race inspections. Following the announcement, Chase Elliott was given the win after initially finishing 3rd.

During the post-race media conference, Chase Elliott was asked what if JGR appealed the decision and if would he celebrate the win? To this Chase replied, “For me, I don’t really feel right celebrating someone else’s misfortune, number one.”

“Number two, it could change by Thursday or Friday or whenever so.”

“It’s not necessarily something I’m proud of or something I’m gonna boast about. Throughout the course of this situation, I thought we were very fortunate to run third.”

He added, “No race car driver wants to win that way, and whether it gets overturned or not overturned or whatever, I’m not gonna celebrate somebody’s misfortune or whatever for that situation. That doesn’t seem right to me and I crossed the line third so it’s kinda how I’m looking at it.”

How will Chase Elliott get the trophy from Denny Hamlin?

Later on, Chase was asked how he would get his trophy back from Hamlin. Considering they both share the same agents, would the agent just courier it?

Once again Chase showed his nature as a gentleman and replied, “I haven’t even really thought about it, and honestly like if he wants to keep it he can keep it. As far as I am concerned he crossed the finish line first, but you know I haven’t really thought about that. I didn’t really feel like I earned it on track yesterday so if he wants to keep it then I’m good with that I’m not gonna ask for it.”
