Kevin Harvick is a true racing legend, a master of his craft, and a fierce competitor on the track. His illustrious career in NASCAR has seen him achieve unparalleled success. However, there is no denying that last year, Harvick lost it with NASCAR.

He was regularly seen ranting out against the sport mostly on issues such as driver safety. Recently, the veteran driver took his time to explain what led him to his outburst regarding the driver’s safety last year. It turned out that Kurt Busch‘s incident at Pocono Raceway was the eventual tipping point for Harvick.

During a recent podcast interaction, Harvick mentioned, “There were a lot of frustrations. It really started to come to a head when Kurt got hurt. For me really started over my eyes and we got a problem. You know, it’s a problem that I started to reach out and ask questions on that particular weekend. Finally, it got to a point where it affected our team, in our car Darlington and I freaking lost it. It might have not been the best way to handle it, but it got stuff done.”

As he navigated through Turn 3, the rear of his car lost traction and spun out of control. The vehicle careened backward and collided with the wall with a heavy impact. The force of the crash caused the car to spin again and hit the wall once more. Kurt Busch was immediately assessed by medical staff. But unfortunately was not cleared to race for the weekend due to symptoms consistent with a concussion.

Early on, it felt like Busch would return to racing within a race or two. However, his condition just would not improve. Later on, as the days went by, NASCAR even issued him a waiver to come and compete in the playoffs. But after repeatedly failing to clear medical evaluations, Busch called it quits. Unfortunately, later on he had to address his retirement from full-time race altogether during an emotional speech. One could say that the safety lapses with the Next Gen car ruined his career.
