Not seems too difficult for Austin Cindric these days. He reigned supreme once again in the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ inaugural race at the Daytona Road Course on Saturday, for his fifth win in the last six races. Cindric beat Brandon Jones by a huge margin of 7.108 seconds and again dominated for most of the race. But Cindric’s latest win did not come without a lot of drama at Daytona.

Cindric, driving the No. 22 car, won the first stage before starting 13th in the second stage. He then picked off one car after the other to catch stage leader Chase Briscoe. But then an incident occurred, the aftermath of which saw Cindric lose his cool. Cindric made the pass on Briscoe as they went to the first run from the infield, but was caught by Briscoe in the chicane off the final turn.

Cindric, furious with Briscoe, expressed his frustration on the team radio. He then stopped next to Briscoe during the caution and threw a water bottle at him, only to miss his window.

“That’s a double downer because I didn’t even make it to the window. Didn’t even execute on that,” Cindric said after the race. “It’s tough, I got pretty heated there. I probably should have reeled myself in. That’s probably the biggest thing I’m not very happy about with myself today. I let that get to me and obviously it showed,” Cindric added.

“I’m very passionate about what I do, very passionate about driving. Its been a while since I’ve had a heart on my sleeve moment like that. Probably a good lesson for me halfway through the season to know that I’ve still got some work to do up here (points to his head) and that’s where it counts,” Cindric continued.

Cindric admitted that he was not at his best on Saturday, but executed well for the win. The win is what eventually matters and the Daytona win is Cindric’s seventh career Xfinity Series win. His fifth win in six races also ties him with Sam Ard for the record that was set in 1983.
