Recently, Dale Earnhardt Jr opened up on his podcast about the NASCAR Crown Jewel races. For the uninitiated, there are four races that have ascended to the title of Crown Jewel. They are, the Daytona 500, the Coca-Cola 600, the Brickyard 400, and the Southern 500. However, the Brickyard 400 is losing its luster and some have begun to wonder if it still deserved the status. It is worth mentioning that Dale Jr is not fond of the name Crown Jewel.

He declared, “I hate that word. I hate Crown Jewel, it sounds like we’ve taken something from a different sport. It’s like we’ve taken something from horse racing or something, like Triple Crown. Is there another sport out there that has something called the Crown Jewel? I think we used to say that because we didn’t think that we had that big a fanbase. We kind of had to give them an idea that this race, I know it’s the first race, but this is the biggest race.”

What else did Dale Earnhardt Jr say about the subject?
This conversation arose because Denny Hamlin won the Coca-Cola 600 earlier.

Now, Dale Jr and the NASCAR paddock will be looking forward to the next race of the season. This time around, everyone touches down at the Sonoma Raceway. It is worth mentioning that the drivers will race on the 2-mile layout, as opposed to the 2.5-mile layout used last year and in 2019. On both those occasions, Martin Truex Jr and Kyle Larson won the race, so they may be the favorites. However, there is a chance that we could get a completely different winner in the coming race weekend. Don’t rule out Chase Elliott, who excels at road courses.
