With 29 laps to go, Justin Allgaier managed to sweep around the outside of Justin Haley to snatch the lead in the first of two NASCAR Xfinity Series races this weekend at Richmond. From there, Allgaier never looked back and went on to win the race. When he spoke about the move, Haley suspected that the move came a touch too early.

He spoke to Fox NASCAR after the race and said, “I kinda let him go, I thought he went too early, to be honest with you. He was way more sideways than I was. But they had something underneath the car that allowed it to be sideways and still have a bit of grip.”

Haley confessed that he did not have the luxury of that kind of grip. However, he insisted that he and the team will try and find the grip needed in Saturday’s race.

What else did Justin Haley say?

When he saw Allgaier slide, Haley figured that he would be able to catch him, since his tires were possibly fading. Justin Haley thought that he would need just a couple of laps to catch Allgaier since he was getting very sideways.

However, Haley suspected that Justin Allgaier timed the move perfectly and used the lapped traffic to his advantage. The #11 driver knew that he was faster, but rued the fact that he did not play his cards right.

Speaking about Saturday’s race, he assured that the team can find an ideal setup. Haley confessed that sustaining some front end damage did not help matters, as it affected the handling.

Haley concluded, “Allgaier was just a little bit better. I‘m about tired of everyone on social media saying I can‘t show up anywhere but superspeedways. So I finally showed up somewhere where talent matters.”

Now, all that Justin Haley can do is look forward to the second race at Richmond to try and wrest victory from Allgaier.
