At the Sonoma Raceway, Kyle Larson took a second consecutive Cup Series win at the Sonoma Raceway. Behind him on the track was Chase Elliott, taking his second consecutive 2nd place. At Sonoma, Elliott managed to finish as the runner up, even though there was a new face in his garage.

As it turns out, Trey Poole stepped in as the interim spotter. This came in the wake of his original spotter, Edward James D’Hondt getting arrested for assault. Nevertheless, Elliott and Poole seemed to work well together and they were rewarded with 2nd. Admittedly, nobody knows if Poole is a temporary solution or a permanent one.

Elliott said, “Everything’s been going really well. I think he’s doing a really good job. To be thrown into that situation and not have a ton of experience, I think he’s done really well. He’s done all that we could ever ask of him.”

The defending champion also noted that he was not sure about what went on during the pit stop phase. He revealed that the original plan was to jump the stage, but ultimately nobody did. In the end, the driver spoke about his preparation for the All-Star race.

According to Elliott, even though this is an All-Star race, the track itself is important for the playoff. This is why he feels that it is important to put on a good performance at the Texas Motor Speedway. Elliott also confessed that when he took part in the Truck Series race, it was quite hot.

On the bright side, he acknowledged that he had plenty of time to recover from the scorching heat. However, he was not overly happy with how his title defence is turning out. Hopefully, he can turn things around in the coming races and during the playoffs.
