Following the NASCAR Cup race at Watkins Glen, Chase Elliott made a bit of a fool of himself. As it turned out, he was under the impression that the next race was at Bristol. However, the truth of the matter is that the next race is the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at the Daytona International Speedway.

He said, “For some reason I thought we were going to Bristol. I don’t know why, I don’t know where I got that in my head. We were doing some scheduling and I have a buddy that lives around there. I’ve been talking to him. For some reason I had it in my head, that’s where we’re going. I might swing through there Saturday morning just to check it out, see who’s in town.”

All joking aside, this weekend’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 is a hugely important race. Not only does it herald the final race of the regular season, but it is also the last chance to book a Playoff berth. It is also worth noting that there is one spot remaining, and several contenders for it.

At the moment, Ryan Blaney is in the driving seat, as he is the highest-placed non-winning driver. However, he could face the threat of Martin Truex Jr and a few wildcard drivers for that spot. Bubba Wallace is also a favorite, as he generally performs well at superspeedways. While all this is going on though, it is no skin of Chase Elliott’s nose. This is because he has already qualified for the Playoffs.
