The past few weeks have been really difficult for the Hendrick Motorsports team. Earlier this year, Chase Elliott was ruled out for a few races, due to injury. Luckily, he is back in action once again. But now, a new disaster has struck them. This time, the victim is Alex Bowman, who injured himself in a sprint car race. Since teammate Kyle Larson is an avid sprint car racer himself, could this be a time for him to reconsider his activities outside NASCAR?
Kyle Larson acknowledged the risk that he is undertaking
Speaking to Nathan Solomon of The Podium Finish, Larson said, “I don’t just do it for fun. Don’t just do it for training. I also make a lot of money, racing. So it’s more than that, it’s also a business for me. I make a good chunk of money, racing, selling merchandise at the dirt tracks. I get to race in front of a lot of fans, that might not get to see me at a NASCAR race. It’s all weighed, I weigh it all and I think there’s a lot of benefit that comes from it.”

In essence, the 2021 Cup Series champion has insisted that his non-NASCAR activities are not something he does just for fun. His dirt racing activities contribute to his training and also earn him a fair about of money. Furthermore, he does it for fans who cannot see him in the NASCAR arena.

Larson continued, “Obviously, there is the risk as well, but there’s risk in everything that you do. See what happened to us at Talladega last week. There’s more risk there than I think in sprint cars.”
“Dirt racing gets a bad rap from time to time. People assume the odds are much higher, getting hurt in a sprint car. I would love to see the data that would prove that, because I don’t view it that way. We’ve got drivers out with concussions, we’ve got drivers out with concussions breaking bones, I’ve broken bones in a Cup car. I’ve honestly escaped death a couple of times in a stock car”
“I think this week was very emotional. I am not an emotional person, but when you sit back and think about it, yeah, I could have been very seriously hurt on Sunday”

What awaits the Hendrick Motorsports driver at Dover?
Admittedly, the race was supposed to kick off on Sunday but got washed out. So it was postponed to the following day and will be very nerve-wracking for the drivers. Larson has a long climb on his hands from 18th place on the grid after qualifying was also rained out.

He will have to contend with several rivals, including his own teammates. Chase Elliott won last year, and the absentee Alex Bowman won the year prior. Additionally, Richard Childress Racing driver Kyle Busch has been in form so far.
