Joey Logano has earned a reputation for being very aggressive. Due to this, he has made plenty of enemies in the competition and has been given the tag of “villain.” The reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion recently made an appearance on a YouTube live stream on racer David Gravel’s channel. Safe to say, the #22 Team Penske driver got very candid and unapologetic about his notoriety, practically embracing it.

Talking to Gravel about his reputation, the Logano said, “I don’t know if I’m the villain. I’m aggressive, I won’t take any crap. If you do it to me, I’m doing it back to you. It’s going to be like that, Boom! Done! That’s who I am. If I did it to you, I expect to get pushed back and I go, ‘Yeah I had it coming.’ That’s fine with me.

“We can do it with our cars, you can’t do that with a sprint car. You’re going to kill someone. But in our cars, someone slides you and pushes you…Okay, it’s coming right back immediately.”

Joey Logano confessed that his approach cost him his reputation

According to Logano, he was a pretty aggressive driver, even looking as far back as 6–7 years ago. Now, he insists that he has mellowed out a little, but has not “gone soft.” At the end of the day, the game has drastically changed, especially with drivers like Tyler Reddick and Ross Chastain. Even Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski have been fairly aggressive, with the former living up to his “Rowdy” moniker.

Logano continued, “So that gave me a little bit of a bad look, also the way I handle situations when I was young. To the point of doing things wrong and being very arrogant and thought I knew everything. I handled a lot of situations early in my career, wrong. So a lot of people made judgment off of that.

“Once people make their mind up, there’s no changing it, apparently. That’s part of growing up in front of everybody. Everyone’s done stupid things when they’re 18, I promise you. Everybody remembered, unfortunately.”

Now, the defending champion will be looking forward to the upcoming NASCAR season. Of course, the road will not be easy, but he will be ready to defend his title successfully.
