Surely, Ross Chastain did the unthinkable when he decided to go full throttle, rode the wall, and emerged one place ahead of Denny Hamlin, booking his ticket into the playoffs. Yes, it was spectacular for sure. But it could’ve been bad, really bad, as the spotter of Bubba Wallace pointed out.

Wallace’s #45 was one of the cars which Chastain’s #1 passed as he made his way along the wall to the checkered.

Speaking about this, Freddie Kraft, the spotter of the 23XI Racing driver, explained his problem: “Here’s my problem, the issue is, I think they’re gonna make a rule.”

“You gotta protect these guys from themselves, you can’t just have them driving into the fence all the time,” he continued. “If Bubba (Wallace) would’ve pulled up in front of him, not knowing he is coming, and he rear-ended Bubba, it would’ve been LIGHTS OUT!”

The spotter also emphasized that whatever NASCAR ends up doing, it absolutely cannot be something on the lines of “a judgement call.”

“It can’t be a judgement call, it’s gotta be black and white, whatever rule you’re gonna make,” he added.

Bubba Wallace had urged NASCAR to set a precedent following his suspension

Speaking ahead of the race at Martinsville, a returning Bubba Wallace revealed the conversations he had with the President of NASCAR as well as the Chief Operating Officer of the sport as he emphasized on one specific detail.

“I totally accept the penalty and the repercussions that came from my actions. I talked to (Steve) O’Donnell, and I talked to (Steve) Phelps and I said, ‘Hey, I’m good with being the example, it’s if we can keep this consistent going forward because it’s happened multiple times this year and something that may still continue to happen for other drivers down the road,’” he described.

Wallace emphasized that consistency should be implemented regarding officiating, penalties, and suspension regardless of the series of the track it may be on.

With that said, do you think NASCAR will ban the kind of move Ross Chastain did and issue penalties for any driver who tries that in the future?
