Currently, Ryan Newman is competing in the 2022 Superstar Racing Experience. However, there was a sliver of a chance that he could have one more season in the NASCAR Cup Series. In a recent conversation, he revealed that he tried to get in touch with none other than Rick Hendrick of Hendrick Motorsports.

He said, “I’ve sent Mr. H some texts. If Larson doesn’t do whatever or if he retires after winning the championship, let me know. I’d love to sit in the seat. Last week I texted him, if his crew chief can’t do the job, I’ll sit up on the box for you and fill in. Ultimately, I’m having fun, doing what I’m doing. There’s a part of me that still wishes to be a Cup champion, not saying I don’t, just not right now in front of me.”

What next for Ryan Newman in the SRX Series and in NASCAR
Admittedly, he attempted a comeback in the NASCAR Truck Series. Unfortunately, in his one and only appearance, he failed to qualify, because inclement weather canceled the heat races. To this day, this remains his only DNQ in his entire NASCAR career, in all three categories.

At the moment, he is content with racing in Tony Stewart’s SRX Series. While it is no NASCAR, it does pit drivers from different disciplines against each other in equal machinery. Of course, he is 44 years old, so he may find it difficult to get a seat in the NASCAR Cup Series. However, one can never say never, especially if he does deliver some excellent results.

One thing is for sure, Ryan Newman will use the 2022 season to keep himself occupied. This is in the event that a stray NASCAR Cup seat opens up in the future. Otherwise, he will have to settle for life away from the premier stock car series until he hangs up his boots.
