Frankie Muniz entered the realm of NASCAR racing in October 2021. From working as an actor behind the camera to manning the wheel behind a stock car, the 38-year-old has come a long way in following his passion for motorsports. Despite his limited time being associated with NASCAR, there’s already a big rumor floating about his future in the Xfinity Series.

Muniz competed in his first-ever race for Joey Gaze Motorsports at Daytona International Speedway. But a switch from ARCA to Xfinity was an overwhelming one for him, as he could only manage a P33 finish after being caught up in a wreck early on in the race. At 38, Muniz understands that he has a limited amount of time to leave a mark in motorsports and therefore is eyeing a collaboration. But not as a racer, but instead as one who will extend his stay in stock car racing longer.

Gase-Muniz Motorsports brewing behind the scenes?

According to a report by The Daily Downforce, Frankie Muniz and Joey Gase are rumored to be teaming up to co-own Joey Gase Motorsports. The report also suggests that the duo is working behind the scenes to complete the move and will make the announcement official. The community caught the first hint of this potential collaboration between the two via a social media post. It was a still image of the garage equipment that had the initials of Gase-Muniz Motorsports.

The JGM was founded by Gase and his fellow driver, Patrick Emerling. However, just as the 2024 NASCAR season was about the curtains, Emerling left the team and the co-ownership. This has now opened the door for Frankie Muniz to potentially chip in, take over the added responsibility of ownership, and continue racing.

Owning a team, Muniz will secure his partial schedule in the Xfinity Series, and this will be a welcoming sight for his fans. After running a successful ARCA series in 2023, Muniz has made a big leap by deciding to compete in the Xfinity Series. However, in this scenario, if the ownership deal comes true, he will have more than one opportunity to race at Daytona again.

Actor-turned-driver eyeing a prolonged stay in Xfinity

It is hard to believe, but for Muniz, this is just his second year in stock car racing. He has proven his racing skills in other disciplines of racing, but by joining NASCAR, he is now among the big dogs. However, going by the rumor that is floating online, Muniz can very well book his seat in Joey Gase Motorsports for a long time if he decides to collaborate as a co-owner.

The trend of co-owning a team and racing at the same time is not a new one. Brad Keselowski does it with RFK Racing, and Kyle Busch did it during his time at KBM in the Truck Series. So it certainly won’t be a new phenomenon to see a driver take on the shared ownership role. Joey Gase himself is looking for a partner to shoulder the responsibility, and Muniz does fit the role quite well.

Now, the only issues that need sorting out are Muniz’s alliance with Ford Performance and the JGM team fielding Chevrolet race cars. However, the 38-year-old, after his first Daytona experience, will be looking forward to competing in his next race at Phoenix.
