The three-way partnership between Kyle Busch, Joe Gibbs Racing, and Toyota enjoyed a great deal of success over the last decade and a half. Busch won the team two Cup Series championships during his 15-year run with the JGR. However, their association fell through last year after Busch was left without a sponsor. Now, Kyle Busch recently shared an insight into what led to his exit from Joe Gibbs Racing, leaving Dale Earnhardt Jr‘s former spotter T.J. Majors and Brett Griffin scratching their heads.
T.J. Majors and veteran spotter Brett Griffin recently appeared on the “Door Bumper Clear” podcast alongside co-hosts Freddie Kraft and Casey Boat. During the conversations, industry insider Boat revealed that Busch claimed JGR owner Joe Gibbs offered Kyle Busch his own money to stay with his team for 2023. However, the NASCAR legend refrained from taking Gibbs ‘personal money’, resulting in his exit last year. However, the veteran spotters just could not wrap their heads around Busch’s exclusive revelation months later.

In the recent edition of the “Door Bumper Clear” podcast, T.J. Majors responded, “There’s gotta be more to this. I don’t care where you get it from. I mean, I mean, right?” Meanwhile, the co-host Kraft wondered if money was the reason why Busch had moved on. Freddie Kraft also argued that all the money that came in from the sponsors was Joe Gibbs’ money as he received it and paid the drivers too.

In response, T.J. Majors said, “I mean like, If Tom Brady signs a $50 million deal, you know, for whatever many years and he gets, you know, if he gets on an airplane and there’s a briefcase in the back with, you know, $10 million. Does he think he’s gonna turn it down? ‘I don’t want. I’m not. This briefcase is not mine. I don’t want this.”
While agreeing with Majors’ point, Brett Griffin expressed his frustration about why the controversy was still being talked about despite the fact that Busch had joined a new team months ago. Brett Griffin said, “Yeah PR 101 here man! Just take the high road. Why are we still talking about this?”

Griffin added, “It’s a new chapter, a new team. You’re going out to run the Daytona 500. Why are you and Gibbs still going back and forth? Why is Toyota still involved? Why are we still aloft? Take the high road. Let the chapter close.”
