“I’m choking up over here, so I’m glad you’re talking.” This is what Danica Patrick said as Dale Earnhardt Jr opened up on the heart-warming story about the one time he wrote a letter for his father, Dale Earnhardt.
In an appearance on her Pretty Intense podcast, Dale Jr. recalled how one night, he began writing down an essay about what his father meant to him, something that took him no time at all to write.

After writing it, he decided he’d take it and get it published in a sports publication, but before that, he had to get his father’s approval for the same.
“He takes it, and he reads it, he stands up and he starts walking around reading it. And it’s only about a page and he stops at the end, and he takes a minute, and he says, ‘You know we never tell each other how we feel about each other but in reading this, I know exactly how you feel,'” Earnhardt Jr. recalled.
“I was like, ‘Yeah! Man, that’s exactly how I feel about you. i didn’t know he didn’t know that,” he continued.
“He was like, ‘I’m so glad you did this. I’m so glad you shared this with me.'”

Dale Earnhardt Jr. went on to reveal how the seven-time Cup champion reacted after he opened up on his plans to get that letter published.

“He says, ‘You can’t use this in the publication. You save this for a book or something,’ and I’m like, ‘No I’m not saving this,'” he said.

This was something which the JR Motorsports co-owner believes, had it not happened, had he not written that letter, it “would be tough.”

“That moment is the most important moment of my life with my dad, without a doubt. We won races together, and stood in victory lane together but to know that he knew how I felt about him is really important knowing that he would pass away months later,” he added.
