So, it’s been pretty quiet on the new paint job front for the NASCAR cars lately. Seems like everyone’s been all about how the drivers are doing, tweaking the cars, fussing over tires, and all that gearhead stuff. But then, recently a NASCAR insider, one of the crew members of ‘Door Bumper Clear’ podcast, spilled the beans on why we’re not seeing those flashy new designs zooming around the track as much.

Is it all because of sponsorship?

Fans usually go wild over news of drivers showing off new paint schemes on their cars. But, with such NASCAR announcements becoming rare nowadays, a guest on the DBC podcast was curious about what’s up and when we’d see the return of those awesome designs. Dale Earnhardt Jr‘s employee Freddie Kraft stepped up to explain the situation.

He pointed out the issue is all about sponsorship these days. He said, “The problem with that is the sponsorship. It’s just nobody does a full season, you know they like back in the day when it was the Good Wrench 3 the Valene 6 the Miller Light to like that was just that car all year and that’s just that’s just KN going to nobody right.” Well, it seems the sponsorship crisis being talked about for quite a while now has started showing its impact on an unexpected level.

Diving deeper into the conversation, Brett Griffin put the spotlight on how cool Minard’s paint job looked. But when new sponsors aren’t exactly lining up around the block or the current ones decide to stick to the same few designs, it’s no surprise we’re seeing fewer fresh paint schemes on the NASCAR track.

For instance, back in January 2024, SBJ let slip that FedEx was planning to roll with about the same number of designs for the 2024 season as they did in 2023. That move alone screams of cutting back on what must be a hefty chunk of change usually dropped on jazzing up those cars with JGR.

Thinking about how NASCAR teams have knocked it out of the park with some killer designs in the past, it’s a bummer we’re not getting treated to that level of artistry as much.

Jimmie Johnson paid homage to Richard Petty with a blue beauty that was a knockout from every angle. The throwback number plate style and that classic horsepower logo on the hood were absolutely top-notch.

Then there’s Ross Chastain’s ride, decked out in Busch Light colors. It’s a nod to Kevin Harvick’s old ride and that light blue shadowing was purely nostalgic.

Let’s not forget the iconic Castrol red and green. Those colors are legendary in racing, and when Brad Keselowski hit the Daytona track in the #6 with that chrome number shining, it was a sight to behold.

Bubba Wallace’s car, with those fries poking out of a red “container,” was a feast for the eyes. Corey Lajoie’s Daytona 500 entry with a chili theme was a major step up from his usual looks in 2023.

Alex Bowman brought the only purple car to the party, and it was bursting with layers and details. And Christopher Bell’s ride? It mixed DeWalt yellow with the neon green you usually see on Interstate Batteries cars, making it a real head-turner.
