A month has flown by since NASCAR legend Ray Evernham and ex-NASCAR team bigwig Rob Kauffman turned heads by snapping up the iconic International Race of Champions (IROC) brand. The acquisition birthed IROC Holdings LLC, with big dreams of breathing new life into the star-studded racing series. Since dropping that bombshell, chatter has mostly buzzed around how this new venture stacks up against the SRX Series, with updates few and far between. But now, Ray Evernham has broken the silence, dishing out fresh details on their inaugural event and launching their website to boot.

New developments in the IROC reunion plans

Back in the day, the International Race of Champions (IROC) was where the rubber met the road, bringing together the crème de la crème of drivers from all corners of the racing world to duke it out in 12 equally tuned stock cars. From 1973 to 2006, this arena was the battleground for racing royalty, with names like Dale Earnhardt, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Al Unser Jr, A.J. Foyt, and Mario Andretti lighting up the track in their Chevy Camaros, Pontiac Firebirds, and Dodge Avengers.

Ray Evernham and Rob Kauffman are set to jumpstart IROC after a 17-year pit stop, ready to bring those iconic machines back into the limelight. In a recent tease on IROC’s social media, Evernham spilled the beans on what the team’s been up to these days. He shared that the IROC website is on the verge of going live, packed with all the juicy details and a sign-up for the upcoming events.

Evernham added, “We’re also going to invite all the street cars. People who have IROC Z Camaro’s Dodge Day Tonos, Dodge Avengers, Firebirds, and of course, the owners of the cars that started it all for us, the Portions.”

But at the heart of it all, the main event aims to showcase those IROC beauties in action, dusting off the cobwebs and roaring back to life on the raceway.

Chewing the fat with SiriusXM Radio, Evernham let slip a few tidbits about grand comeback of IROC’s historic wheels hitting the asphalt once again. He kept the cards close to his chest about the where and who, but it’s clear they’re gearing up for a big splash sooner rather than later.

Evernham, painting the picture of his dream, mentioned, “Rob Kauffman and I are both racers, and we both really love motorsports and history. So, we had an opportunity to get this IROC brand. And the plan right now is to put on a vintage type of race event reunion here before the end of the year, we’re really, really early in the planning stages.”

He added, “Just to get that IROC brand out get people to know a little bit about what it is, and put on some demonstrations and try and get some of these IROC cars out of the garage and back onto the racetrack.” Drop us a line in the comments and let us know how pumped you are for IROC 2.0.
