It’s no secret that NASCAR has a long-standing tradition of payback among drivers, or rather rivals, who race each other aggressively. However, the sport has also seen legends like Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Kyle Busch, who, although are known for their tough driving style, never really faced much retaliation as their rivals were too afraid to tackle them. Recently, NASCAR insiders have been buzzing about a new driver who is being dubbed as the “New Dale Earnhardt.” And it is none other than Ross Chastain.

During the latest episode of Door Bumper Clear’s podcast, veteran spotters Brett Griffin, T.J. Majors, and their co-host Casey Boat discussed Chastain’s driving style and why he has remained retaliation-free despite ruffling feathers on the track.
They also touched on whether Chastain could be the new ‘Intimidator’ in the sport.

Why Hasn’t Anyone Retaliated Against Ross Chastain? An Insider’s Perspective
Griffin suggested that drivers are afraid of retaliation from Chastain, stating, “I think they’re afraid of Ross, I think they’re afraid of them getting him back, he’s just gonna get them again.”
He further added, “Is this guy the new Dale Earnhardt? In terms of how he races and are people intimidated by Ross Chastain? Is that a fair question? Why aren’t they doing anything back to him?”

However, Boat argued that Chastain isn’t necessarily intimidating, but rather, just a driver who wants to get to the front and doesn’t care who’s in his way. “I don’t think they’re intimidated by him, I don’t think he does it like ‘Oh I just wanna wreck this person’ I think he truly just wants to get to the front and doesn’t care who’s in his way'” said Boat.

Majors brought up an interesting point, stating that there’s a lot more at stake if someone were to retaliate against Chastain, especially given his position as the points leader and contender for race wins. Despite being an aggressive driver, Chastain’s success on the track cannot be denied, which could be why drivers are hesitant to take action against him.

Ross ‘Wrecking Ball’ Chastain Strikes Again
Ross Chastain, the driver for Trackhouse Racing, showed his competitive nature, once again, during the recent NASCAR Cup Series at Dover Motor Speedway and stood up to his nickname, given to him by Christopher Bell. The Florida native managed to fight his way to the front of the pack, thanks to his fast race car.

During the race’s first stage, Chastain found himself right behind Brennan Poole’s #15 Ford Mustang, with lapped traffic causing an obstruction. To clear the cars quickly, Chastain made contact with Poole, causing the Rick Ware Racing driver to spin out and slide up the track. Unfortunately, the incoming Kyle Larson was unable to avoid the #15 and collided with it, forcing Poole out of the race. Larson also sustained damage to his #5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, leaving him several laps behind the leaders in P32.

While the idea of Chastain being the new Dale Earnhardt may be a stretch, there’s no denying that his aggressive style of driving is reminiscent of the late great driver. Chastain’s success on the track has yet to be matched with any retaliation from his fellow drivers, leaving many to wonder if they’re intimidated by him or if the stakes are just too high.

Regardless of the reasons behind his almost retaliation-free record, it’s clear that Chastain’s driving style is turning heads in the NASCAR Cup Series. Whether he becomes the next Intimidator or not, he’s certainly a driver to watch out for, quite literally, in the coming races.
